In our Lionfish project, we develop and test our learning material built around a 360VR film and STEAM activities. The first pilot implementation was successfully completed.
During this pilot, the learning scientists from EdMedia CYENS Centre of Excellence in collaboration with the environmentalist of the Cyprus Centre for Environmental Research and Education / Κυπριακό Κέντρο Περιβαλλοντικής Έρευνας & Εκπαίδευσης - Κυκπεε, engaged 14-16 years old students into becoming more active in reacting to climate change.
The innovation of this program concerns the intersection of 360VR viewing with working on STEAM activities (Lego Mindstorms EV3) and visualization tools. The students were enthusiastically involved in thinking about possible solutions to tackle the spread of lionfish as well as climate change in general, while they explored robotics for clearing the oceans from the invasive species.
Special thanks to the students and teaching staff of Gymnasio Episkopis for their active participation and enthusiasm, to the environmentalist of the Cyprus Centre for Environmental Research and Education for supporting the implementation, especially to the scientific director Andreas Hadjichambis and Demetra Hadjichambi for the invaluable insights during the co-design of the experience. Thanks to CUTing Edge for the photography.
